Certificates for watches: what your market actually requires

October 9, 2026 · 4 min read · Taylor Muller workshop team

CE, RoHS, nickel-free, ISO 9001, BSCI — which ones apply to a wristwatch, which are optional, and how to have a certificate issued for a market that asks for something else.

Certification questions usually arrive late in a project, often because a marketplace, a retailer or a customs broker asked for a document nobody expected. It is easier if you know three things up front: what applies to watches, what your buyer will ask for, and what it costs in time to add.

The certificates that usually apply

Have a quantity in mind?

Tell us the model, the colours and the quantity — we come back with the exact MOQ, target price and lead time for your build, within 24 hours on working days.

CE / RoHSProduct compliance for the EU — restrictions on hazardous substances in the watch itself.
Nickel-freeRelevant to anything that touches skin: case back, bracelet, clasp. Often requested in the EU and Japan.
ISO 9001The factory’s quality management system. Buyers ask for it to qualify a supplier, not for the product.
BSCI / social auditLabour and social compliance. Retailers and larger importers ask for the report.

What is not a certificate

“Waterproof” is not a certification. Water resistance is a test result measured in ATM or bar, and it depends on the case construction, the gaskets and how the crown is sealed. We test every unit before packing, and we can tell you exactly what the case you choose will pass. A supplier who quotes a water-resistance figure without the construction behind it is quoting a wish.

If your market wants something else

Tell us which certificates your market or your customer asks for and we arrange testing and certification with the relevant labs and agencies. We do not claim certificates we do not hold, and we do not print logos on a box that are not backed by a document — that is the fastest way to have a shipment refused.

Ask for the certificate chain, not the logo: who issued it, for which model, and whether it names the factory. A logo without a document behind it is decoration.

Where to check us

Our current certificates are listed on the factory page, together with the quality steps every watch goes through. If a compliance question is blocking your order, send it to us with the market you sell into and we answer with the document you need, or with what it takes to have it issued.
